Tascam 414 Ashbridge Audio tape loops and Feedback experiment is a couple of afternoons getting lost in using my rediscovered Tascam 414. First time of creating a tape loop and I couldn't wait to experiment with recording onto it and once I heard it I just had to record the results.

I don't know how useful it all is but I just love getting lost in the mesmerising quality of recording and listening back to a tape loop! It's somewhat random but I only documented the recordings that I thought had something special to them.

The feedback experiment is the result of connecting the Effect Send to the input of a track. It was fascinating to do as the EQ, mic gain, track gain, master gain all contributed to the sound and not just EQ on the track I input into but also, to a lesser degree, the EQ on the other tracks. As a result I was surprised to find there was quite a range of sounds to be found. At one point also found just having my hand close to the cassette desk caused some interference at one point!

Each loop is a combination of 2 stereo recordings, most from the same material. This is so that the gap that occurs between erase and record heads is covered by the other recording, giving a sound which is continuous the whole way through.
